Mayoral row ends
SAN JOSE DEL MONTE
A TWO-MONTH-OLD conflict over the mayoral post in this Bulacan city has ended after Mayor Reynaldo San Pedro yielded his office to former Rep. Angelito Sarmiento.
San Pedro, the erstwhile vice mayor who assumed the mayoral seat after the death of Mayor Eduardo Roquero on Aug. 24, did not proceed to his office after he bid goodbye to his supporters during Monday’s flag ceremony at the City Hall.
The Commission on Elections earlier declared Sarmiento the duly elected mayor of this city when it ruled on his election protest against Roquero.
On Sept. 8, the Comelec issued a cease and desist order against San Pedro, asking him to stop functioning as city mayor and allow Sarmiento to assume the post.
Instead of stepping down, San Pedro filed a motion to contest the order, which was eventually denied. Carmela Reyes, Inquirer Central Luzon
